Biography:
(1902–91), president, Bechtel-McCone Corporation (1937–46), California Shipbuilding Corporation (1941–46), and Joshua Hendy Iron Works Corporation (1945–69); assistant to the secretary of defense (1948–50); undersecretary, U.S. Air Force (1950–51); chair, AEC (1958–60); director, CIA (1961–65). While serving as acting secretary of the air force, he issued a statement that arranged for air force training for black service members in New Mexico.
