Case, Clifford Philip

Biography: 

(1904–82) (R-N.J.), lawyer; New Jersey state legislator (1943–44); U.S. representative (1945–53); U.S. senator (1955–79). A liberal Republican, he was a supporter of antilynching, anti–poll tax, and FEPC legislation. In 1950, he opposed an electoral reform bill that opponents believed would enhance southern power in federal elections. During that same year, Mitchell listed him as one of the new, more progressive Republican leaders.
