(1887–1959), white Presbyterian and Congregationalist minister; college professor; radio minister (1930–35); labor organizer (1938–43) for the Textile Workers of America, CIO; labor representative for WPB, Jacksonville, Birmingham (1943–44); director, Region VII (Atlanta), FEPC (1944–45); executive director, National Religion and Labor Council of America (1947–53). Wrote Southern Rebel in Reverse, The Autobiography of an Idolshaker(1961). Born in South Carolina.
