[1] After referral, first to Ernest Trimble, then to Maceo Hubbard, this case, a complaint from the UAW regarding refusal to upgrade a black machinist, was presented to the Committee at its meetings of 9/7 and 9/9/44. At that time the Committee recommended that before resorting to a hearing, further efforts be made to resolve the case through negotiations with the company and with the UAW-CIO. A hearing on Goodyear Aircraft Corporation was held in Akron, Ohio, on 5/14/45. See the related correspondence filed with this text in HqR83; Transcript of Proceedings, 9/9/44, 19–21, HqR65, Central Files; hearings transcript and related texts in HqR22.
