Biography:
(1886–1959), lawyer and businessman; director, NEC (1933–34); U.S. postmaster general (1940–45); chair, DNC (1943–44). Mitchell met with him to discuss employment discrimination in the postal service; in negotiations with FEPC on discrimination complaints against post offices; acknowledged jurisdiction of FEPC (1944).
