Thomas, Rolland Jay

Biography: 

(1900–67), Detroit union leader; president of UAW (1939–46), serving at the same time as a CIO vice-president. He was a member of various wartime boards, including the WLB and was involved with NAACP efforts to better organize its branches and chapters. In 1944, FEPC conferred with him on strike at Wright Aeronautical Co.
