Sengstacke, John Herman Henry

Biography: 

(1912–97), publisher, Chicago Defender (1934–97); founder (1940) and president, NNPUA; member, PCETOAS (Fahy Committee) (1948–50). He supported a conference with Secretary of Labor Schwellenbach on nondiscrimination by USES offices. Along with Rep. William L. Dawson, he is often credited with having facilitated Richard Daley’s rise to power in Chicago politics.
