Biography:
(1906–74), prominent Ky.-born black writer; employed by Amsterdam News, then New York Post; on leave from Post (1940–45) to serve as a publicist for various federal agencies, including OPM, WPB, WMC; headed Negro Press Section in OWI’s D.C. news bureau; Mitchell consulted him as rep. of OWI on advisability of govt. participation with strikers in radio broadcast on Phila. transit strike of Aug. 1944.
