Patterson, Robert Porter, Sr.

Biography: 

(1891–1952), (R-N.Y.), lawyer; judge, U.S. District Court, Southern District of New York (1930–39); judge, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit (1939–40); assistant secretary of war (1940); undersecretary of war (1940–45); FEPC asked him to make plans for use of military personnel in event of walkout at Capital Transit Co. (1945); U.S. secretary of war (1945–47). In 1946, he denied the existence of discrimination in his department.
