Nimitz, Rear Adm. Chester William

Biography: 

(1885–1966), U.S. Navy, retired as Fleet Admiral of the Navy and Chief of Naval Operation in 1947 after a forty-five year career. In 1940, he corresponded with the NAACP about the segregation policy for black uniformed naval personnel. In 1945, he established policy forbidding employment of Japanese Americans in naval establishments on West Coast.
