Edwards, Edward William

Biography: 

(1878–1954), printing press operator and union official; secretary (1916–28) and president (1928–30), Allied Printing Trades Council; member, New York State Industrial Board (1927–45); commissioner (1945–53) and chair (1951–53), New York State Commission against Discrimination (1951–53). In 1947, Mitchell conferred with Edwards regarding the plight of black merchant marine officers who were forced out of particular vessels because the white officers did not wish to sail with them.
