Donaldson, Jesse Monroe

Biography: 

(1885–1970), postal worker; chief post office inspector (1943–45); first assistant postmaster general (1945–47); U.S. postmaster general (1947–53). The NAACP opposed his appointment to the latter position because of his failure as first assistant postmaster general to take action against discrimination in the postal system. In 1948, he apologized for the post office’s categorization of AJCong and the AVC as subversive organizations.
