Carter, Ashby Bernard

Biography: 

(1898–1953), black postal clerk in Chicago (1913–c.1950); president, Chicago branch, NAPE; board member, National Council for a Permanent FEPC; national president, NAPE (1945–53). He protested discrimination in the post office system and was against placing FEPC under WMC’s control. In 1949, he pledged donation for NAACP’s 40th anniversary. He was born and educated in West Virginia.
