Philadelphia Transportation Company (PTC) motorman, president, PTC employees union that was replaced as representative of transit workers by CIO’s Transport Workers Union (early 1944). Leader of Philadelphia transit strike (August 1944) protesting hiring of black trainees as streetcar operators; arrested and fired.
