(1915–83), black labor economist; leader, Midwest March on Washington Movement; examiner in charge, St. Louis sub-office, FEPC (1943–45); administrative assistant to A. Philip Randolph (1946–56); assistant director, Civil Rights Department, AFL-CIO (1956–61); economist, editor, researcher, field agent, Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters, AFL; executive director, American Negro Leadership Conference on Africa (1962–68); special assistant on Africa, AID (1973–77). He testified on revision of the Taft-Hartley Act (March 1949) and amendments to the Railway Labor Act (May and June 1950) before the House Committee on Labor and Education and the House Committee on Interstate 1915 and Foreign Commerce, respectively. BA, Northwestern; MA, U. of Chicago.
