Van Gelder, Philip Henry

Biography: 

(1907-99) secy.-treas., IUMSWA-CIO; in negotiations with FEPC, other agencies over walkouts, labor unrest at Bethlehem Steel and Shipbuilding Corporation–Sparrows Point, Md. Later settled in Baltimore, where he served as the grand lodge representative of the International Association of Machinists. Jailed six times for organizing unions and calling strikes. Born in New York City, graduate of Brown University.
