Meacham, James Stewart

Biography: 

(1910-85) member of National Labor Relations Board (1937-46); said in response to a 1943 Point Breeze Employees Association complaint that unions could ask for a strike vote on the issue of separate-but-equal bathroom facilities; a graduate of Davidson College and Union Theological Seminary, he was a Methodist missionary who served as assistant to the president of the Amalgamated Clothing Workers Union of America, national peace secretary of the American Friends Service Committee, and co-chairman of the New Mobilization Committee to End the War in Vietnam
