Hill, Thomas Arnold, Sr.

Biography: 

(1888–1947), assistant to the executive secretary, National Urban League (1914–16); assistant to the executive secretary, Chicago Urban League (1917–25); director, department of industrial relations (1925–40) and acting executive secretary (1933–36), National Urban League; member, executive staff, NYA (1940–47); special assistant to the administrator on racial matters, OPA (1943). In 1940, with Walter White and A. Philip Randolph, he met with President Franklin D. Roosevelt to urge “the immediate and total abolition in the armed services of segregation based on race and color.” FEPC conferred with him on OPA policy on discrimination.
