Biography: 

(1896–1957), president, IUMSWA (1935–51); board member, National Council for a Permanent FEPC; founding member, Americans for ADA; FEPC conferred with him on FEPC complaints against Todd Johnson Dry Docks Co., New Orleans (1945). He expressed his appreciation of the NAACP’s support of the union during its strike against the Bethlehem Steel Shipbuilding Co. (1947).
